School Ski Trip Sponsorship
31st Mar 2022
Giving back is in our DNA. That is why we have sponsored a ski trip for the students at John Henry Newman Catholic College, as well as providing students with Adaptive gifts.

Below is a brief interview with teacher and trip organiser Tim Lane.
JHNCC is a catholic secondary school serving the community in North Solihull. The motto is ‘Heart speaks to Heart’ and catholic life is at the heart of everything we do. We operate in a socially deprived area, with over 40% of the cohort available for Free School Meals. Formerly known as Archbishop Grimshaw, we have always looked to set up a variety of trips and excursions due to the limited opportunities for many of our students. The students have paid for the trip themselves but we launch it a year in advance to help parents with monthly payments and look to do fundraising or seek sponsors. Many will not have been abroad, and to ski is a luxury experience. They will remember these trips more than they often learn in the classroom.
As above, this has meant we can look at adding to the experience while we are there with additional activities in the evening, including a pizza restaurant trip, ice skating, sledging, hot chocolate night, and an additional certificate with a medal. Without this sponsorship, we either do not do any of the above or ask for additional money, which I don’t like doing as the trip is already too much.
It is likely that some of this funding will run into next year’s trip as we were too late to reduce any costs for families.
This is not common, no, for such generous sponsorship of the school and its pupils. We had a sponsor four years ago for a sports trip to Valencia and then we had some from Land Rover for the ski trip three years ago. We usually get some fundraising events going, but with covid this year and the uncertainty of the trip going ahead we did not have the time. Therefore your support of the school came at just the right time.
I have just started handing out the hoodies, funded by yourselves, and this would have not been possible otherwise. I have not had a chance to look at the items in reception, so the students don’t know yet, but I know they will really appreciate them.
