Dementia UK

Dementia UK

Dementia UK are a specialist dementia nursing charity that is there for the whole family, working towards a day when no one has to face dementia alone. Dementia UK’s specialist nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, provide life-changing advice and support, to anyone affected by dementia, whenever it is needed.

When someone develops dementia (which includes Alzheimer’s disease) it doesn’t just impact the person with the diagnosis – everyone around them is also affected in some way. That’s why Dementia UK exists. Their specialist nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, provide free, expert advice, support and understanding to help families care for their loved one.

Northampton General Hospital Gosset Ward

Gosset Ward is a neonatal intensive care unit which cares for newborn babies who require some form of special high dependency or intensive care nursing.

Most of the babies admitted to Gosset are due to premature births. The normal length of pregnancy is 37 – 42 weeks gestation, so a baby born before 37 weeks is premature.

It is expected that babies less than 34 weeks will be admitted to the unit. Babies at 34 weeks or more will only be admitted to Gosset if they need specialist care. It is not unusual to admit full term babies to the unit for various reasons.

The unit is part of the East Midlands operation delivery network and is a designated level two unit and is allowed to practice intensive care for babies of 27 weeks’ gestation or above and 28 weeks and above for twins.
